MicroTrade recruited over 50 small businesses from the sustainable construction sector from across the island of Ireland to attend the Build Ireland Greener (BIG) networking event in Galway last October. 12 buyers from large private and public sector organisations including architects and building contractors also attended the networking and training seminars.
SSC Systems from Portadown was one of the attending companies. Formed in 2004, SSC Systems produces stainless steel hot water pressurised cylinders for the rapidly expanding renewable energy market within the island of Ireland. They attended the BIG event as they felt that the renewable energy sector is more advanced in the Republic of Ireland.
Paul Scullion, Marketing Director at SSC states “We have a number of customers in the south but we viewed the BIG Event, organised by MicroTrade, as an excellent opportunity to meet with potential new customers and partners. As a result of our attendance, we had a number of sales with attending companies, and since then, have managed to increase our southern customer base by 37%. The pre-arranged meetings enabled us to meet numerous companies within the expanding energy sector, where word of mouth is still a critical factor”.
The stainless steel cylinder market is currently dominated by several UK and European manufactures who supply their standard range of products to the local market. SSC Systems’ flexible manufacturing system means that they can deliver small quantities with reduced lead-times. They also offer a bespoke customised cylinder to suit individual customers with a range of different sizes which they can own brand as their cylinders.
The cylinders are manufactured with a special `coil within a coil` heating coils specifically designed to offer additional surface area to suit individual needs or applications.
